Easter with Blocked Photovoltaics!

The holiday weekend brought unusual challenges for energy production in Poland. From Friday to Monday, the Polish Power Grid (PSE) made decisions to limit the capacity of photovoltaics, disconnecting it for several hours each day. Interestingly, on Sunday, March 31st, a record-breaking photovoltaic capacity of 3237 MW was disconnected! This surprising event was due to excellent weather and lower energy demand due to the Easter holidays.
 
The highest restrictions occurred on Sunday, when photovoltaics accounted for over 40% of electricity production in Poland. The extended holiday weekend and favorable weather conditions also led to increased wind energy production during nighttime hours.
 
Despite these challenges, electricity prices remained positive, indicating market stability. It is worth noting that despite the limitations, the energy price did not drop below zero. This is another example of the flexibility and resilience of the Polish power system.
