Deutsche Börse launches DBDX platform for cryptocurrencies

Deutsche Börse has launched DBDX, a regulated spot platform for trading cryptographic assets, in collaboration with Crypto Finance. The initiative aims to meet the needs of large institutional investors, who have had limited access to cryptocurrency markets until now. Initially, the platform will offer trading of Bitcoin and Ethereum against EUR, with plans to expand the offering in the future.

Deutsche Börse will manage the trading system, while Crypto Finance will be responsible for the custody and settlement of cryptocurrencies. The services will be available to clients in Germany and other European countries. Although trading was supposed to begin last week, there is no information available yet about the first transactions.

This initiative responds to the growing interest in cryptographic assets from institutional clients, particularly following the approval of the first bitcoin ETFs by the SEC. This trend has led to a surge in the value of bitcoin, which has reached a record level of over $71,000.

The DBDX platform holds a regulatory license and aims to provide transparency, security, and compliance for institutional clients in Europe. It plans to operate on a request-for-quote basis, with the possibility of introducing multilateral trading in the future.

In Poland, unlike in Germany, the financial market regulator expresses skepticism towards cryptocurrencies, not promoting them as part of the traditional financial market. However, Deutsche Börse's initiative marks the first step towards implementing the 'Horizon 2026' strategy to build a resilient and trustworthy digital asset trading system.
